An Elegant, French Countryside-Inspired Wedding at the Topnotch Resort in Stowe, Vermont
Boston-based couple Liz Greene (29 and a weddings editor at Style Me Pretty) and Thomas Burdett (29 and a Ph.D. student) knew that a big city soiree just wasn’t their style. The couple turned to their attention to the charming New England countryside to find a quaint, natural venue with an intimate vibe. The Topnotch Resort in Stowe, VT proved to be the perfect spot for the pair’s “I do’s” with its breathtaking scenery and amenities that made a weekend getaway easy for all of their guests. From there the couple planned an elegant, French countryside-inspired affair with a soft, sophisticated color palette of blue, white and neutral hues. “I love the classic striped linen napkins often seen at farm-to-table restaurants and I was amazed at how that simple item influenced so much of my style,” says Liz. The tables were dressed with crisp white linens and textured, garden-inspired arrangements of peonies, delphiniums, scabiosas and garden roses displayed in silvery antique vases. Rosemary and lavender accented each place setting, adding a light, fresh scent and Provencal flair to the tablescapes. Designer Marah King created custom stationery for the event, translating the couple’s vision into playful seed packet escort cards with vintage herb prints and kraft paper programs, menus and signage decorated with French blue flourishes. Votive candles were sprinkled throughout to add a hint of sparkle to the tablescapes, while gold-framed table numbers felt chic and refined. Liz and Thomas welcomed guests to their Green Mountain locale with bundles of locally made treats and ensured the dance floor was packed all night long with plenty of lively beats. A tip for the taking from Liz: “I can not say it enough — work with people who are not just talented, but who are truly great, kind people. It makes the whole process so much more enjoyable and fun! These people inspired me and I’ll look back fondly on my time with them.”
