An Elegant, Classic Wedding at the Coronado Ballroom in St. Louis, Missouri

Catherine Feuerhahn (25) and Stephen Zsisgray (29 and a hedge fund trader) planned an elegant, classic soiree for their late-summer wedding in St. Louis, Missouri, with a palette of soft ivory, rose, gold and champagne hues. Since they met while attending St. Louis University, the pair could think of no place more appropriate to tie the knot than the city that brought them together. Catherine and Stephen gathered their family and friends at Our Lady of Lourdes for the ceremony, where they were married by Stephen’s longtime family friend and priest, who flew in from Dallas, Texas. The festive sounds of traditional bagpipes filled the air as guests arrived to the ceremony. The couple kept the decor simple yet timeless, keeping with the day’s classic theme, decorating the aisles with bunches of fresh ivory hydrangeas wrapped in lengths of satin ribbon. 

After exchanging vows, the festivities unfolded at the Coronado Ballroom. Not only did the venue offer the refined feel and stately aesthetic Catherine and Stephen were after, but it also looked out onto the St. Louis University campus. “We had spent a lot of time there over the years and loved the ballroom,” Catherine says. As guests arrived on-site, they were greeted by cool tunes performed by a jazz quartet and the couple’s signature drink, a Sgroppino, a refreshing mix of Prosecco, vodka, lemon sorbet and mint. A traditional sit-down dinner followed, and a trio of wedding cakes provided a sweet finish to the meal. Tables were draped in crisp ivory linens, with gold chargers and a mix of high and low floral arrangements overflowing with hydrangeas, roses and stock in shades of ivory, white, blush and peach. “We wanted our flowers to be a combination of elegant sophistication and vintage chic,” Catherine says. Brightly lit candles in stemmed glass candleholders were woven throughout, giving each table an air of romance. Pale-pink uplighting and the couple’s monogram were projected onto the ballroom’s walls and ceiling for a hint of visual drama. As dinner wound down, the nine-piece band Spectrum took to the floor, where they brought down the house all night. 

After the last song, Catherine and Stephen’s friends and families gathered outside the Coronado, where they sent the newlyweds off in a blaze of bright sparkler light. “After spending the weekend with nearly 200 guests, we wanted some special private time with just our immediate families,” Catherine says, “so we had a limousine take us and our families around St. Louis for a few hours, while we continued our celebration.” A tip from Catherine and Stephen: “Savor every minute of the wedding because it goes by too quickly. Just remember all your friends and family have traveled from all over the country to celebrate this one day with you—that in and of itself is amazing.” —Libby MacCarthy
