An Elegant Bohemian Wedding at Madsen's of Newmarket in Toronto, Ontario
Melissa Hong and Sam Diep pulled off a polished boho bash for their spring wedding in Toronto that paid tribute to their Chinese and Vietnamese heritages. The celebration kicked off with two tea ceremonies that allowed Melissa and Sam to pay respect to their elders, which was then followed by a personalized Western ceremony at Madsen’s of Newmarket with live music from the couple’s close friends. “This all happened under a canopy of greenery inside the greenhouse and, just at that moment when we were exchanging vows, it started raining really hard—which made the moment even more emotional for us,” Melissa says. Playing off the intimate, organic feel of the greenhouse, Melissa and Sam decided on a modern A Midsummer’s Night Dream theme with a soft color palette of vintage rose, burgundy and gold, plus plenty of warm candlelight and lush, unstructured blooms. Gilded lanterns, vases and picture frames were incorporated throughout for a hint of refined flair. The soiree featured no shortage of personalized touches, including a bubble tea bar—a big hit with guests—choreographed dances by the newlyweds and their wedding party, and matching “Wifey” and “Hubby” denim jackets rocked by the couple during the reception. “Enjoy the planning process and learn from each other. Stay focused on the fact that this is supposed to be a simple yet happy day for the two of you, and you will know what decisions matter most,” Melissa says.
