An Elegant, Bohemian Wedding at Linden Place in Bristol, Rhode Island

Alice Donovan (27 and a designer) and Alexander (Alex) Rouse (27 and a mobile developer) combined streamlined typography with a peacock-inspired color palette to juxtapose their modern vision with their historic venue.

Alice put her design skills to work, creating a clean-lined invitation suite that incorporated topographic maps. “I wanted the day to feel very ‘us’ in every way,” she says. “I’m a sucker for lyrics and quotes, so they appeared in many places.”

The early 19th-century mansion and manicured rose gardens provided a picturesque backdrop for the outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour. Signature sips included bourbon lemonade and prosecco before the celebration moved indoors for dinner, which had an outstanding sea bass entrée on the menu.

Whiskey bottles that doubled as escort cards and favors were affixed with custom labels that read “Bristol Bourbon” and “Rhode Island Rye.” “The town of Bristol embraced us like we had lived there our whole lives,” Alice says. “People congratulated us on the streets — the local fire department even rang their alarm!”
