An Elegant and Traditional Wedding at the Taj Boston Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts
Kathryn (Kathy) Crewe (35 and a PhD student) and Brian Kelly (27 and a law student) first met working for the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan at the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. Once Brian’s fellowship ended, they began to date. The couple continued a long distance relationship while Brian lived in “Beirut, then Princeton, and then Tajikistan for language training and graduate school during the next two years,” says Kathy. He proposed after a blindfolded walk to the Spanish Steps in D.C. as well as through a construction site, says Kathy. While they originally wanted get married in Boston, the couple were wed closer to home at the Arlington Street Unitarian Universalist Church in D.C. in front of 135 friends and family members. After the ceremony, the couple, wedding party and their guests were led into the Public Garden by a bagpipe player. They then moved into the Taj Boston hotel for a reception decorated in metallics and purple. Kathy, Brian and their guests enjoyed a plated dinner of salmon with asparagus or chicken with mushroom risotto. The couple took their first dance to "Fly Me To The Moon" by Frank Sinatra. Rather than wedding favors, the couple left their guests with a more personal gift. “We made a donation to Oxfam America in honor of Kathy's father who had passed away,” says Kathy.
