An Eclectic, Vintage Wedding at Mildale Farms in Edgerton, Kansas

Angela Giesen (30 and a marketing manager) and Russell Giesen (31 and works in sales) met at Tengo Sed Cantina during a Kansas University versus North Carolina game. Four years later, Russell proposed while they were on vacation in Wisconsin with Angela’s family. For the wedding, the couple chose Mildale Farms for its equestrian-style barn, white fences, brick driveway and gorgeous pond. “First and foremost, I absolutely loved my wedding venue,” Angela says. “I loved it so much that we waited a year and a half to get married there. I wanted a barn wedding, and after seeing Mildale Farms, nothing could beat it. I felt that the property had a wow factor even before it had floral and decor inside.” Although they originally planned to get married outside, they had to move inside due to the weather. The exchanged vows in front of vintage screen doors, an antique ladder and floral arrangements, which they made themselves, before moving to the eclectic, string-lit reception. The couple used navy and blush as the main colors and accented it with shades of white and gold. Wanting a natural, rustic and vintage feel they combined lace, burlap, mason jars, milk glass and broaches throughout the decor. Angela made her broach bouquet, and made Russell’s sentimental golden boutonniere with a photo of him and his late sister so she could be with them on their day. At the end of the night, the couple enjoyed a variety of desserts and danced into the night to Lost Wax. “After hearing the band Lost Wax at a local bar, I turned to my husband and said, ‘We have to have them at our wedding,’” Angela says. “We can both say that the band was hands down the best decision we made.”

“My favorite accessory was my wedding bouquet,” Angela says. “What I loved most about it was that all of the broaches were given to me by family and friends. For each of my showers they were asked to bring me a broach so that I could add it to my bouquet so I could carry a piece of them with me as I walked down the aisle. I made the broach bouquet. It turned out beautiful and is now a keepsake that I have displayed and reminds me of my wedding day.”
“I wanted lace and this dress delivered that,” Angela says. “It was a totally different style than I was wanting but it was gorgeous and yet modern with a tiered lace effect. I also wanted something with a sleeve. Once I added the beaded cap sleeves to the dress, I loved it even more.”

“And the men, man did they look good,” Angela says. “My husband is trendy, and I left their look to him. We ended up getting the suits at Men’s Warehouse. They were a modern cut, iridescent royal blue two piece suit and I loved their look. The blue suits popped and were perfect. He got each of them ties from The Tie Bar, fun socks from Nordstrom Rack and his gift to them were Cole Hahn dress shoes that they paired with the suits.”
“I knew that Russell was missing someone very special in his life, his sister who was killed in a car accident, and I wanted him to carry a piece of her with him on his wedding day,” Angela says. “I had a locket made for him to wear on his jacket that had one of his favorite pictures of them on it. Sharing this moment with Russell is one that I will never forget; I never had the opportunity to meet his sister but she’s just as important to me as she is to him and I’m so happy that we both had a moment together to remember her on our big day.”
“My main requirement was that the dresses had to be blush colored with lace accents and for everyone to have a different style,” Angela says. “I didn’t want them to be uniform but unique. I found four out of the five dresses on Modcloth.com, and each option was less than $100.”
A Rustic Ceremony at Mildale Farms
“For the wedding ceremony, Russell and I stood under a wedding arch that he and I made from old screen doors and an antique ladder,” Angela says. “It was covered in large boughs and garland of seeded eucalyptus and foliage with pops of floral.”
“First and foremost, I absolutely loved my wedding venue,” Angela says. “I loved it so much that we waited a year and a half to get married there. I wanted a barn wedding and after seeing Mildale Farms, nothing could beat it. I felt that the property and the Equestrian barn all had a wow factor even before it had floral and décor inside. From the white fence that lines it, the brick driveway that leads you through the property, the pond, the main estate, cottage and equestrian style barn.”
