An Eclectic Interfaith Wedding at Material Culture in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Rather than indicate “black tie” on their invitations, Rachel Barag (31 and a restaurant manager) and Phila Lorn (31 and a chef) instead implemented a “red carpet” dress code. “That was a nod to my love of Hollywood,” Rachel says. Jewish and Buddhist traditions were present throughout the day, and the couple wed under a hand-carved chuppah using a silver Kiddush cup that’s been in the bride’s family for nearly 200 years. A warm palette of gold and burgundy played up Material Culture’s eclectic interior. “Our venue was so unique and beautiful,” Rachel says. “It was the perfect way to showcase both of our cultures.” When it came time to waltz to their first dance together, the newlyweds chose an unconventional throwback tune. “We danced to Jesse & the Rippers’s version of ‘Forever’ from Full House,” Rachel says. “Phila and I both share a love for the show, and when we started dating, we realized we remembered all of the words.”
