An Autumn Castle Wedding at a Private Residence in Manhattan, Kansas

For Sophia Tolentino (23 and a mentor support specialist) and Patrick Kenney (22 and a student), their castle venue was just as sentimental as it was scenic. “We got married at the home of a family friend,” Sophia says of hosting a garden party for 200 guests at an estate that’s more than a century old. “I have many memories of running around the home as a child.” A rich palette of emerald green, blue and burgundy was a tonal fit for autumn-appropriate tablescapes finished with butcher paper runners and DIY wood coasters (which doubled as favors) branded with the couple’s initials. “I wanted our centerpieces to feel bountiful,” Sophia says of the fruit-filled arrangements. Beyoncé’s “Love On Top” played as the newlyweds exited the ceremony hand-in-hand. “We wanted to let everyone know we were ready to get the party started,” Sophia says. With the help of her sister, a floral designer, Sophia worked café au lait dahlias into arrangements and traded in her veil for a bohemian flower crown postceremony. As a savory way to honor to the bride’s Brazilian heritage, signature caipirinha cocktails were served alongside churrasco barbecue and feijoada. Strands of string lights illuminated the alfresco reception. “It truly felt like a fairy tale,” Sophia says.
