While Nicole Nelson (26 and a career counselor) and Mike Rominski (25 and a filmmaker) were set up their mutual friends, it took a while for them to actually meet. But once they did, they were practically inseparable. A year after they started dating, Mike proposed on a dock on the St. Croix River with a ring the couple had designed together. The couple planned a swinging Gatsby style bash that was nothing short on glamour. They chose the Calhoun Beach Club to host the event, its river views and impressive vintage decor fitting in perfectly with their vision. A color palette of mint green and gold had a distinct old world flair, while Art Deco stationery, over-the-top feathery centerpieces and candelabras dripping in pearls played up the wedding’s 1920s vibe. Old microphones and cameras added unique touch to the tabletops, paying tribute to Nicole and Mike’s love of film and storytelling. Cocktail hour was held out on the terrace facing Lake Calhoun with a band playing upbeat tunes in the background. Mini tacos and margaritas whetted guests appetites before heading indoors for the reception — complete with a photo booth stocked with “Harry Potter” and “Breaking Bad” props, plus performances all night long by George Fabor and the Icons. Rhubarb chocolates made with rhubarb from Mike’s father’s garden and a handcrafted wooden platter guest book, also made by Mike’s father, were additional special touches that gave the affair personality. “One of the most special parts of our wedding was that Mike made our wedding video himself,” says Nicole. “His business partner and a friend, filmed us all day and then Mike edited the footage.”

Vintage-Inspired Custom Designed Engagement Ring and Wedding Band
To give guests a sneak peek at what was to come, Nicole and Mike opted for Art Deco wedding invitations in their color palette of mint and gold.
Playing off the wedding's 1920s theme, Nicole opted for a vintage-inspired beauty look, wearing her hair in a curled, half up style and subtle, yet glam makeup.
Instead of a classic bouquet, Nicole opted for one filled with an eclectic mix of brooches, with a few white roses for a fresh touch.
Tying into the wedding's color palette, Nicole's shoes, a pair of laser-cut booties, were a bright shade of mint green.
Nicole had her bridesmaids choose their own dresses, only requesting that they be a shade of mint green. The girls added on a few metallic accessories for a hint of glitz.
The groomsmen wore classy light grey suits with brown wingtip shoes. They added on mint green bowties and cuff links with classic 1920's cameras on them.
Tiered lace and a classic sheath silhouette made Nicole's Claire Pettibone wedding dress perfect for the vintage-inspired affair.
