All Cards on the Table for a Spiritual Barn Wedding in Connecticut
When Ariadna (Ari) Garza (43 and an artist) and Aaron Novik (44 and a musician) met, they bonded over their interest in music and tarot. Another good sign: The first card Ari pulled for Aaron was the four of wands, which represents a long-term relationship and possible marriage. A few years later, they used the card's design as an inspiration for their letterpress invitations and made spirit board reply cards. The ceremony music was equally personal: The pair's recessional song was "Love in Outer Space," by Sun Ra and his Arkestra, whom they heard in concert on their second date.
Ari made the macramé helix knot for the wedding lazy, as a nod to her Mexican heritage. Ari carried roses, dried palm leaves, strawflowers, and wildflowers.
Sugar flowers and watercolor fondant decorated the chocolate raspberry and vanilla coconut cake. Ari and Aaron used their own Ophidia Rosa botanical deck to make the tarot card table numbers, which they framed with pressed flowers. The couple set tables with dusty rose napkins, terra-cotta vases and pieces of quartz and amethyst from their minerals collection. "We wanted a romantic, magical vibe," Ari says. The newlyweds danced to "Send One Your Love" by Stevie Wonder.
