When Adriana and Ricky were planning their wedding, they dealt with a case of role-reversal. Ricky said it was always his dream to have a big wedding day, says Adriana, but I wanted a small function with a relaxed vacation feel. The first time, at a celebration in their hometown of Chicago, they were introduced by a mutual friend and had a first date a few weeks later. We had great platonic chemistry -- we could talk about anything, says Adriana. But the romantic chemistry was not there initially. Exactly one year after they first met, the two ended up in New York for Cinco de Mayo and got together again. This time, though, there was no question about romantic chemistry. Just 10 months later Ricky proposed.

Adriana and Ricky reached a happy medium by choosing to celebrate in Key West. Since Ricky is originally from the Miami area and graduated from Florida State University, Key West was a good compromise. It allowed me to have a getaway-vacation type of wedding, and it was close enough that most of his family and friends could attend, says Adriana.
After cocktails and hors d'oeuvres (including, of course, Key West conch fritters) on the patio, the group moved into the ballroom for dinner and dancing.
The ceremony took place right before sunset on the resort lawn by the beach. Adriana and Ricky had spent time making sure their guests would be comfortable in the Florida heat during the service: the wedding programs folded into fans, and water and iced tea were offered.
