Janet Carter (29 and a pharmacist) and Matthew Allen (42 and a radiation oncologist) met through mutual friends. Matt proposed with a lemon cupcake and a yellow diamond ring. “He got down on one knee and I said, ‘Yes!’” Janet says. The couple chose to get married in their friends’ backyard in Ladue, Missouri. “Our friends’ home was the perfect modern backdrop for our wedding,” Janet says. “Sleek lines and a gorgeous outdoor area while feeling comfortable and welcoming, it was the perfect place for us.” They chose a yellow and gray color palette for the wedding, which was consistent even throughout the attire. Janet wore an untraditional gray dress with ruffled sleeves, a yellow birdcage veil accented with feathers and classic yellow Manolo Blahnik heels for her wedding day. The couple worked with Clever Hands Press to create the modern stationery and Belli Fiori to create all of the gorgeous floral arrangements. During cocktail hour the couple decided to have six signature cocktails that were named after places and people that were important to them. One was The Harvard Square, a nod to Matt’s alma mater, which was orange juice and vermouth. At the end of the night, the couple danced to The X Band from Downtime Productions, who even learned “Red Solo Cup” for the occasion. “It’s an awfully corny song, but has special meaning to our group,” Janet says. “It was a great performance.” Guests went home with poems done on the spot by Fresh Poetry, which everyone loved.

The modern invitations were gray and yellow to match the color palette and had the St. Louis Gateway Arch in honor of their Missouri wedding location.

Janet carried peonies, roses, ranunculus and zinnias in her yellow bouquet.
Matt wore a yellow ranunculus and billy ball on his lapel for his boutonniere.
