A Winter-Themed Wedding at Laketown Golf and Conference Center in Saugatuck, Michigan

After a chance meeting through mutual friends, Joy Garvelink (21 and a communications director) and Ryan Garvelink (23 and an IT consultant) quickly became acquaintances -- according to Joy, that is. "Ryan says it was love at first sight, but I asked if he was joking when he asked me our for the first time!" Joy laughs. The two went on to date for a year and a half before getting engaged during the holidays in 2011. "He constructed this gigantic sign out of Christmas lights asking me to marry him," Joy says. "He had it set up on the beach in Grand Haven where we had gone on our first date." With a winter-themed wedding in mind, the couple set a January date at the Laketown Golf and Conference Center in Saugatuck. "I've always loved the image of snow and ice sparkling ton the trees as the sun hits them, so that kind of splendor served as our inspiration," the bride says. Armed with a color palette of turquoise, silver and white, the couple incorporated winter-themed accents throughout their reception space; including a snowflake wedding cake courtesy of Holland Cakery, white feather centerpieces, dozens of Christmas ornaments and glittering candelabras. Silver and sparkle aside, the main feature of the reception was the couple's intricate dessert table. "We served sweets that rested on crystal platters lit with turquoise lights and candles floated in glass pedestals filled with turquoise water," the bride explains. "Vases of white feathers graced each end of the table, too, with a small silver tree in the center." As for wedding advice for future couples, Joy explains: "Try your best to get all of the big details in order right away. Search for a venue that captures your sense of style as a couple and more importantly, make sure you like your photographers both professionally and personally. They'll be your constant companion on the biggest day of your life!"
