A Whimsical Winter Wedding at the Ipswich Country Club in Ipswich, Massachusetts
Emily Naaktgeboren (24 and a chiropractic assistant and patient coordinator) and Alex Lannan (24 and a service manager) met at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida during the first week of school their freshman year. They quickly became best friends, taking random drives down the east coast, family dinners at his grandparent’s house and visiting the theme parks in Orlando. Alex proposed on New Year’s Eve in Boston, Massachusetts. “I wanted a snowy mountain wedding when we first started planning,” says the bride. “My family (who was from Florida) was quick to remind me that no one wants to stand in the snow in heels!” Since winter is Alex’s favorite season and he loves to ski, the couple planned for a winter wedding at the Ipswich Country Club in Ipswich, Massachusetts, a place close to Alex’s heart since his grandparents live nearby and have had previous events there. “We knew it was the place to be—it is modern and classic. We had several rooms available to us, making it easy to have an indoor wedding due to all of the snow and chilly weather,” says Emily. The ceremony took place in front of a beautiful glass wall as the snow fell in the backdrop. The couple selected to accent their wedding decor with their favorite colors, blue and purple, because they fit their personalities and were soft enough to fit the winter setting. One of the biggest surprises of the day was the wedding cake. Alex created the original cake design, but Emily had other plans. She explains: “Rather than a simple white wedding cake, I had the baker make a half-and-half cake. One side is the original design, the other is a batman cake! As soon as the ceremony was over, I took Alex by the hand and led him to the cake. He saw the back (the traditional cake) and smiled saying how great it looked, then I brought him around to the other side and his reaction was priceless! I’ve never been so excited to spill a secret! Seeing how happy a simple change made Alex was my favorite moment of the day!”
