A Whimsical Wedding at the Courtyard Marriott in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Colleen Montgomery (28 and a clinical exercise physiologist) and Michael (Monty) Montgomery (28 and a teacher) met as college freshmen at the University of Scranton. They became fast friends and started dating, but being young and immature, it didn’t last long. They were in the same circle of friends and continued to run into each other for the next five years. Finally, they started dating again, and the rest is history. Monty proposed with a princess cut diamond ring on the lawn behind the Philadelphia Art Museum during a birthday picnic for Colleen. The wedding ceremony was at St. Augustine’s Church in Old City, Philadelphia, and the reception took place at the Courtyard Marriott, a historic landmark across from City Hall. “Monty and I live in Philly and love our city. We wanted to celebrate in the heart of it and there was nothing more centrally located and felt more Philly than the historic site where we celebrated.” Bright pink and royal blue composed the summer wedding palette. “We wanted to keep the colors bright and lively,” says Colleen, influencing the pink calla lily bouquets and boutonnieres. The couple likes the “less is more” concept when it comes to decor. Table centerpieces were an assortment of simple glass cases filled with white candles and photos of the couple by the table numbers. The special entertainment of the night was unplanned. “Our dads came out mid-reception dressed as Rocky Balboa wearing boxing gloves and pretended to box to the Rocky theme song. Later, Monty’s brother and cousin appeared on the dance floor wearing a banana costume and super hero costume to honor the ridiculousness of Monty’s legendary Halloween costumes. As wedding favors, the couple placed a box of M-shaped Philly soft pretzels outside the ballroom with a sign that said, “Do us a favor and enjoy some Philly flavor,” that sat next to another sign that said, “Don’t go to bed, come party with the newlyweds,” directing guests to meet the couple at a local bar.
