A Whimsical Treehouse Wedding at the John Ball Zoo Bissell Tree House in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Rose gold and copper accents popped against navy blue and blush details during Carrie McAtee (30 and a project manager) and Brian Papke’s (40 and a real estate developer) tree house celebration nestled high above the John Ball Zoo.
As a surprise for her groom, Carrie ordered custom patches that she then attached to both her gown and Brian’s tie. “They read ‘grow old along with me, the best is yet to be,’ since we fell in love with the quote after finding it on a sundial at Brain’s parents’ house,” she says.
Carried and Brian went with metallic details instead of the classic mason jars and burlap to bring their rustic-elegance vision to life. Programs, invitations and cocktail napkins featured rose gold foil, while bridesmaids wore delicate jewelry and shoes in the same hue. As for the bride’s shoes? “I wore four pairs!” Carrie says of changing into sandals, heels, flats and rain boots throughout the day.
With the help of their design team, the couple created a flower wall that served as their photo booth backdrop. As an adorable nod to their zoo venue, animal figurine place cards were spray-painted and affixed with navy tags bearing each guest’s name in white calligraphy.
