A Whimsical Spring Wedding at Wayzata Country Club in Wayzata, Minnesota
Katie Spurgeon (24 and an occupational therapist) and Michael Johnson (25 and a business consultant) drew on the cheerfulness and warmth of spring when planning their May 24th wedding in Wayzata, MN, looking to playful pastels and lush seasonal blooms to bring their vision to life. The evening kicked off with a traditional ceremony at the Wayzata Community Church, followed by an elegant soiree at the Wayzata Country Club. The couple’s favorite colors — orange and blue — formed the base of the color palette, the pastel hues translating into everything from Katie’s heart-studded Betsey Johnson heels to the centerpieces and stationery. Sheer ivory panels interlaced with fairy lights were hung from the ballroom’s ceiling to introduce a whimsical tone to the decor, while fabric-wrapped chairs felt regal and formal. Festivities created all of the flower arrangements for the wedding using full blooms like garden roses, ranunculuses and hydrangeas in shades of ivory, pale blue and coral, infusing a fresh pop of color in both the ceremony and reception spaces. The Lake Minnetonka String Quartet played some of Katie and Michael’s favorite Beatles songs during the ceremony and their officiant surprised them by sharing the notes they had written during the planning process about what they looked forward to most for their future together. Thoughtful details like handmade shoe bags and dancing shoes went a long way with guests and a photo booth offered a fun way for the couple’s friends and family members to remember the night. A tip for the taking from Katie: “In the end, you are marrying your best friend and that’s what matters. The rest of it is just fun extra stuff — so don’t get too stressed!”
