A Whimsical Harry Potter–Themed Wedding at A Simple Affair in Las Vegas, Nevada

As huge fans of Harry Potter, Monica and Mikhail Martinez based their wedding off of the fantasy series by J.K. Rowling. "Overall, we were going for whimsical and vintage with a hint of minimalist and modern," Monica says. The couple chose their venues based on the theme—the ceremony location at Mount Charleston reminded them of the Forbidden Forest in Harry Potter. "The outdoor space was already beautiful, so décor was minimal," Monica says. A triangular wood wedding arch—reminiscent of the deathly hallows—was decorated with burgundy flower arrangements and Italian ruscus. Calligraphed seating charts on scrolls lead guests to wood farm tables for the reception. The venue, A Simple Affair, reminded them of Hogwarts's Great Hall in the Harry Potter series.  Deep red colors gave a nod to their wizard house (Gryffindor), and string lights added to the magical atmosphere. "We also had his and her signature drinks," Monica says. "Mine was Umbridge's Elixir, since it was a pink drink with a rose on top, and Mikhail's was The Triwhiskey Cup, which was a whiskey sour topped with a blood orange crisp and candied ginger." For dessert, guests nibbled on a hand-painted tiered cake while dancing the night away. "We included the Filipino tradition of the money dance, where guests can pin money on mine and Mikhail's sashes and and dance with us," Monica says. She wore a whimsical A-line wedding dress with a long veil, while Mikhail donned a classic suit. The wedding party sported dark burgundy dresses and charcoal-gray tuxedos. The color scheme was inspired by the Yule Ball.
