A Whimsical, Fun-Filled Wedding at Old School Square in Delray Beach, Florida
When planning their personalized, whimsical wedding, Emily Freeman and Miguel Palacios were inspired by board games. "We have game nights with our closest friends at least once a month, so we took our love of board games and enhanced it so that our guests could feel included," Emily says. Both of their fathers officiated the ceremony, which took place beneath a chuppah and included a unity candle ceremony. "We also signed a Star Trek–themed ketubah, 'to boldly go where no one has gone before,'" Emily says. For the reception, the couple achieved their desired aesthetic by DIYing lots of the details. Emily made the signs, family members baked desserts and Miguel sourced classic board games for the centerpieces. "For the centerpieces, we also used unique colanders, vases, mugs, teapots and watering cans—basically anything we could put flowers in," Emily says. "We wanted it to look like someone went outside and picked a bunch of wildflowers." Guests participated in a fun-loving game of BINGO and ate a variety of carnival-inspired foods throughout the night.
Our favorite #MakeTradition moment: "During our ceremony, we had our family members come up and give us their definition of love," Emily says. "It was an amazing moment to listen to the difference between a 5-year-old's definition to couples that have been together for over 30 years."
