A Whimsical Friday the 13th Wedding at Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati, Ohio
Friday the 13th doesn’t exactly scream romance. Yet for Liz LaGory (31 and a designer) and Adam Hortenberry (28 and a retail manager), it was a great day to get hitched—and an excuse to bring superstition into their wedding at Rhinegeist Brewery. The creative couple took design cues from posters for Friday the 13th (fittingly, the flick was projected on a wall during the event), and marked tables with symbols like a black cat or four leaf clover. Since Liz has a thing for palms and neon, a tropical theme emerged as well. “It was kind of a neon Havana nights meets Friday the 13th concept, an unexpected combo that ended up working together,” Liz says. The final touch? Liquid nitrogen ice cream made on-site. “The smoke from the nitrogen created an eerie mist,” she says. Before the ceremony, the wedding party spun around town in a hot-pink Cadillac to take pictures. King protea popped from Liz’s bouquet, and her uncle painted a leather jacket, which she paired with her beaded lace gown. The palm-and-neon altar doubled as a photo booth backdrop later in the evening. Tropical palms, monstera leaves and orchids jazzed up tables, where dinner included beef bourguignon made with Rhinegeist beer. Crayons and paper were set up in the moody lounge area to entertain kids.
