A Vintage Wedding at Lake Ashby Farms in New Smyrna Beach, Florida

Devin Hughey (28, a physical therapist) and Chad Pemberton (28, a helicopter mechanic) originally met through a swing dance club at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Chad later brought dancing into another milestone of their relationship with his proposal. The couple had just finished a vintage-themed double date by dancing on the boardwalk when he got down on one knee. Chad then surprised Devin by slipping her grandmother's restored antique ring on her finger. They had a vintage-inspired outdoor wedding with coral and white accents just four months later. "Chad and I love being outside and we love all things vintage, especially swing dancing, so we wanted something that reflected all of that,” says Devin. “Also, his time in the military and love of helicopters is what brought him to my hometown and led to us meeting one another, so I incorporated that as well." The couple decorated their ceremony with simple white folding chairs, a vintage mirror program and white floral arrangements along the aisle. Swing dancing came soon after the couple said “I do” as Devin and Chad’s 135 guests spent the cocktail hour enjoying a lesson from two of Devin’s friends. An additional vintage flair was reflected in the reception as antique china and mason jar centerpieces were set at each white linen covered table. Chad’s profession was reflected in the couple’s table numbers. Each included a black and white image of a helicopter and an Army phonetic letter such as Huey for H, says Devin. Their naked wedding cake was also topped with a wire biplane. Devin, Chad and their guests enjoyed a night filled with classic barbeque dishes, swing dancing, jazz music and cupcakes in three flavors for dessert.

Devin chose a white A-line wedding dress with lace detailing on the straps, a short train and pockets. She found it at A Bridal Boutique in Gainesville, Florida.

The flower girl’s ivory dress was made by her mother and included a colorful twist. “A girlfriend of mine made a multi-colored petticoat in our wedding colors to give it a little poof,” says Devin.

Devin and her bridesmaids’ bouquets included yellow stock, ivory roses, solidago, pink roses and pink alstroemeria. All were arranged by Best Wishes in Ormond Beach, Florida.
The bridesmaids’ coral halter dresses were found at Banana Republic just one week before the wedding! Each woman paired the cocktail-length dress with white shoes. Chad’s groomsmen wore charcoal Vera Wang tuxedos with black shirts, vests and bow ties. The groom stood out among them with an ivory shirt.

Each of the couple’s reception tables was set with vintage china in different patterns and hues.
Devin and Chad did a swing dance as their first dance during the reception. So their guests could join in the fun, the couple had two of Devin’s friends give a lesson during their cocktail hour.
Along with their naked wedding cake, the couple served three flavors of cupcakes. French vanilla cupcakes with raspberry mousse, pineapple upside-down cake flavored cupcakes with buttercream frosting and German chocolate cupcakes were set atop pedestals and plates surrounded by vintage accents.
“Chad does not have a sweet tooth at all, and my favorite part about cake is the cake, not the icing,” says Devin. With this in mind, the couple chose a naked french vanilla cake with raspberry mousse baked by Paradise Cheesecakes.
Devin and Chad ended their wedding day with a fun sparkler exit held by their guests.
