A Vintage Wedding at Burrough's Home and Gardens in Fort Myers, Florida
Within a year, Brooke Schreiber (24) and Nick Calgaard (29) met at her summer internship and became engaged. The couple was spending their afternoon along Lake Alice in Gainesville, Florida, when Nick told Brooke he wanted to take a picture with his camera. Instead, he pulled out a ring and dropped to one knee. “It was the most thoughtful thing and such a special moment for us both, and we have it all documented!” says Brooke. A photographer was hidden nearby and caught their entire proposal. Over the next 16 months, they planned a vintage accented wedding at Burrough's Home and Gardens in Fort Myers, Florida. To complement the natural waterfront venue, Brooke and Nick chose a rich color palette of neutrals, gold, blush, navy and champagne. After their first look, they had an outdoor ceremony surrounded by 100 friends and family members. Colorful blush and white flower petals lined the aisle to a white rose lined wooden ceremony arch. A wooden cross, neutral birdcage and silver lantern were placed alongside it as accents. Brooke and Nick continued their celebration with a tented cocktail hour and reception. Each guest took his or her seat in dark chiavari chair among round, blush lace and white linen-covered tables. A vintage lantern surrounded by multiple bright floral arrangements and seeded eucalyptus was placed at the center. Passed hors d’oeuvres as well as fruit, cheese and meat stations were available for their guests before Brooke and Nick treated them to buffet dinner and three-tiered monogrammed wedding cake. A DJ from New Beginnings was set up throughout the area as entertainment. “We also had a surprise acoustic performance from my older brother, Jimmy, that was very heartfelt and special,” says Brooke. The couple enjoyed a night surrounded by family and friends before each guest left with a custom koozie. For future couples, the bride shares: “Hire a day-of coordinator at the very least. Nick and I, along with both of our families, were so grateful that the Confetti girls were there to coordinate the day,” says Brooke.
