A Vintage, Travel-Themed Wedding at the Towers in Narragansett, Rhode Island
For their wedding, Kellie Moreau (26 and a social worker) and Matthew Walshe (33 and a convergence technician) planned a laid-back, vintage-chic affair at the Towers in Narragansett, Rhode Island. “We fell in love with the Tower’s history, resiliency and beauty,” says Kellie, who had been in a near-fatal motorcycle accident only eight months before meeting Matthew. “We could relate to how they had to face challenges and rebuild.” A subtle travel theme was woven throughout the day, adding a personal element to the decor. Weedweavers of Wakefield, Rhode Island, created hot-air balloon-themed arrangements for the event and Pranzi Catering whipped up a one-tier hot-air-balloon basket confection for the traditional cake cutting, which was topped with a balloon cake topper made by Kellie and her bridesmaids. And Matthew drew a hot-air balloon basket on a canvas for guests to sign with their fingerprints. In addition to the travel-inspired accents, Kellie and Matthew infused the day with their playful personalities by customizing their vows for the ceremony, having a jazz band play during cocktail hour and inviting the band Wayz and Means to perform after dinner (Matthew is the band's drummer). “Everyone was on the dance floor moving and grooving to the music,” Kellie says. Matthew even got in on a few songs, with Kellie by his side on the tambourine. “The reception was simply perfect for us, since our only wish was for people to have fun and enjoy themselves,” Kellie says. Some tips from Kellie: “Plan ahead and try to stay calm. Everything will work out in the end, and what's most important is the bond between you and your future spouse. Enjoy the time before the wedding, because it will be over in an instant. The stressful time can be a time where you come together and become even stronger.”
