Self proclaimed "typography nerds" Giordana and Justin (they met in graphic design grad school) were inspired by the vintage wedding gown the bride's mother wore on her own wedding day. They kept the guest list small so they could focus on quality time with their loved ones. "We knew almost immediately that we didn't want a traditional wedding—and we certainly didn't want a big one. We wanted to spend quality time with the people who would be surrounding us and celebrating with us, and we knew we wouldn't be able to achieve that with any more than our immediate family and best friends," says Giordana. They choose their favorite city, New York, instead of their native Baltimore for the setting. "we planned a getaway and cherished the opportunity to bring our guests—some of whom hadn't been to New York in decades, or ever—to the city that we so love," says Giordana. They skipped the traditional cocktail and reception and instead gave their guests snacks and a champagne toast on the school bus they rented to shuttle all of their guests around and treated everyone to ice cream after the ceremony. For the wedding decor they went the DIY route, and, of course they designed and printed their own wedding invitations.

The couple used their background as graphic designers to create their custom wedding invitations from scratch. The invitations featured a line drawing of the Brooklyn Bridge.
For her bridal bouquet, Giordana skipped the fresh flowers for paper flowers in bright colors of orange and teal to complement her vintage wedding dress.

Instead of flowers, the couple chose paper boutonnieres to match their whimsical vintage wedding style. The boutonnieres were created by Jade Vine Designs on Etsy.com.
The groom chose to wear orange accessories, including a pocket square, tie and boutonniere because orange is the bride’s favorite color. The groomsmen and Giordana wore teal “to offset the warm hue.” “Once we saw the colors together, we thought they captured exactly what we were going for; they’re festive, whimsical and inviting,” says Giordana.
The bride finished off her vintage look with a pair of teal suede shoes by Seychelles. The shoes peaked out from the hem of her high-low wedding dress.
Before the ceremony Giordana and Justin did a first look. Giordana revealed her mother’s 70s style wedding dress, which she’d altered to give it a modern high-low hemline.

In keeping with the bright and bold color palette of the wedding, Giordana’s bridesmaids wore different shades of pink. rn
Foregoing a traditional wedding venue, the couple was married in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn with stunning views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn bridge as a backdrop.

The phrase “away we go” was a theme throughout the paper elements of Giordana and Justin’s wedding. It fit with the intimate destination vibe and the personalized handmade details of the wedding.
