A Vintage-Inspired Wedding at the Southern Railway Station in Knoxville, Tennessee
Lauren Lazarus (35 and an artist) and Johnny Miller (41 and a tasting-room manager) brought their "Great Gatsby"-inspired nuptials to life with vintage decor, romantic candlelight and fall-colored florals. “Johnny and I prefer something old to something new, and we tend to gravitate toward things drenched in history,” Lauren says. “So it was no surprise that we chose the Southern Railway Station, built in 1903, to have our ceremony and reception. It was like stepping back in time.” The couple created invitations to look like train tickets, a nod to their Knoxville, Tennessee, venue. For the ceremony, they incorporated tree branches, lavish blooms and dozens of pillar candles. During the ceremony, Lauren’s best friend serenaded guests on the piano, playing “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys as Lauren walked down the aisle. Lauren and Johnny wrote their own vows for the ceremony. “We had no idea what the other was going to say until we shared them in front of everybody,” she says. Since Johnny works in the beverage industry, the cocktail hour impressed with an array of local beers, wine, champagne and a signature Bourbon Berry Smash cocktail. During the reception, the Coveralls—the newlyweds’ favorite local band—crooned Ryan Adams' “When the Stars Go Blue” for the couple’s first dance, plus country classics like “Tennessee Whiskey.” “We danced the whole night,” Lauren says. “At one point, I was barefoot on stage playing the tambourine and singing at the top of my lungs.” —Marissa Hermanson
