A Vintage-Inspired Wedding at Oviatt Penthouse in Los Angeles, California

From their historic Oviatt Penthouse venue to the fun 1940s hairstyles, Cristina Lowery (31 and an environmental planner) and David Chung’s (44 and a business system analyst) red-and-black rooftop wedding was filled with vintage-inspired details. Joanne Leung Photography and Sanaz Heydarkhan documented the day as it started with a red rose-lined ceremony and ended in a dance party to music from every decade between 1920 and today. Rubi Anne Weddings and Special Events, the couple’s coordinator, helped decorate the venue with a geometric print on each table number, black-and-white framed cards and bold linens. Black linens and red napkins lined round tables at the reception as each table featured a low floral centerpiece. Arrangements of red roses, white hydrangeas and white roses also complemented the bridal party’s rose bouquets. “We wanted a classic, clean look to go with our vintage theme and venue,” says Cristina. One standout detail at the wedding was the dessert display. Friandise Pastries Inc. baked a two-tiered white confection for the couple with vintage-inspired black detailing. They also helped Cristina and Dave add a modern twist to their dessert with tiers upon tiers of chocolate, lemon and red velvet cupcakes. Guests who came from out of town were also given a local treat before the wedding: DIY welcome bags. “In each bag was a bottle of a California wine, some trail mix and some See's candy, which is a Los Angeles-based candy company established in the 1920s. For those with children, we also included a bottle of sparkling grape juice so they could participate in the celebration.”
