A Vintage-Inspired Shabby Chic Wedding at Cedar Creek Resort in Columbia, Missouri
Allison Buechert (26 and a media planner) and Matthew Freeman (34 and works in IT) met at a wedding. Matthew proposed on an old railroad bridge overlooking a creek. “I said, ’Is this real life?’” Allison remembers. “Otherwise I was without other words except, ‘Yes!’” For their wedding, the couple chose Cedar Creek Resort in Columbia, Missouri, for its lush woods, large lake and onsite weekend-getaway options. “Given that we were going for a fall wedding, we wanted to take advantage of the beautiful foliage and crisp air Missouri has in the fall and have an entirely outdoor event,” Allison says. The ceremony took place in a large, grassy field with a large tree as the backdrop. With such a large outdoor space, they wanted a more confined area, so they created a white double door entrance. Afterwards, the couple had a simple tented reception nearby. Guests signed little notes with fabric squares for Allison to make into a quilt to remember the day. Inspired by vintage items she found in her grandmother’s basement, thrift shops and garage sales, she made all the centerpieces herself, which were full of clocks, birds, books and flowers. They used shades of blue, white and green for their color palette with rustic wood accents throughout. Though the Allison and Matthew provided most of the decor themselves, they worked with Pretty Little Things Vintage Rental to complete the look. At the end of the night, they had a rustic textured buttercream cake, fruit pies and cookies.
