A Vintage, Glamorous Wedding at the Crofoot in Pontiac, Michigan
Morgan Zahul (25 and a luxury hotel catering sales manager) and Chuck Smith (24 and a logistics account manager) met on spring break in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Though they were both students at Michigan State University and later realized they had friends in common, the two had never met. For Chuck, it was love at first sight, and he secretly "shottied" Morgan to his friends. Fast-forward three years and Chuck proposed at Michigan State's Beaumont Tower, surrounded by their friends and family, in the same spot they shared their first "I love you." Chuck and Morgan knew they wanted their wedding day to remain true to themselves, with the perfect blend of traditional and fun. The wedding party included their best friends who had been on spring break when they first met and all their siblings who helped Chuck create the special proposal. They selected the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan, for their reception, which is the county's oldest commercial building and a venue that has hosted Chuck's favorite band, Vampire Weekend. While the Crofoot Ballroom may not be the first choice for most couples, Chuck's love for music and Morgan's passion for transforming spaces made the Crofoot the perfect venue to host all their favorite people. Chuck and Morgan were married at St. Daniel Catholic Community by the priest who baptized Chuck, and they honored their moms with ceremony readings. Bright pops of fuchsia blended with champagne and gold, enhanced by the Crofoot's pink and purple lighting, created the perfect vintage glam backdrop as the newlyweds hosted 170 of their closest friends and family. Chuck surprised their guests by joining their band, Still Rain, on stage and playing a set with the retro Gibson SG guitar Morgan had given him as an engagement gift. Chuck and Morgan incorporated their love for Chicago, Illinois, where they live, with a late-night Chicago-style hot dog station, passed mini deep-dish pizzas and Chicago-style popcorn favors. The best day of their lives finished with a sparkler send-off on Pontiac's main street surrounded by their loved ones.
