A Vintage Garden-Party Wedding at Lutsen Resort in Lutsen, Minnesota
With a color palette inspired by nature, Sara Ostman (31 and a buyer) and Joel Socha (35 and a warehouse manager) had an organic garden-party wedding with touches of wood, feathers and hanky pennants. Their waterfront venue, Lutsen Resort in Lutsen, Minnesota, set the tone for the entire day and inspired the ultra-local Minnesota touches. “Both of us were born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. We wanted to share the beauty of Minnesota's north shore with our friends and family,” Sara says. “An outdoor ceremony location was a must, and Lake Superior as a backdrop was something out of a dream. We were looking to host a destination wedding without the plane ride -- a chance for friends and family to get away and enjoy Lake Superior and to have all of the wedding events in one location.” Mariah McKechnie from Northland Special Events worked with the couple to bring their vision to life, and Amanda Cane from JaneCane Photography beautifully captured all the details of the day. What we really loved, though, were the stunning natural floral arrangements that tied all the details together. Everything from the wooden wedding arbor adorned in leaves, hydrangeas and roses to the curly willow and ranunculus boutonnieres to the vintage metal watering can that held the flower girl's bouquet added texture to the rustic, bohemian details. We also really loved the local menu, including potato-crusted walleye. “A must-have for a wedding on Lake Superior: fresh walleye!” Sara says. As if that wasn’t enough, How Sweet It Is Cakes created cute bundt cakes (one for each table!) to finish off the family-style dinner.
