A Vintage Backyard Wedding at a Private Residence in Charleston, Missouri
Emily McDowell (31 and a research data coordinator) and Michael Stahlschmidt (31 and in sales) used the unlikely combination of bright peacock feathers and vintage pieces to create a beautiful wedding. Something Blue Photography captured every detail of the day, which began with a backyard ceremony at their friend’s home and ended with a simple nighttime reception at Miner Convention Center. The couple’s florist, Ginger Miller, filled the wedding with just the right accents to complement both inspirations. Each bridesmaid carried a fun bouquet of pink roses, green dianthus, peacock feathers, red dahlias and green hypericum berries. The arrangements also complemented each centerpiece at the reception. Thistles, mauve roses, green dianthus, small green chrysanthemums, yellow spider chrysanthemums and other bright plumes were placed inside blue goblets, tea cups and more vintage accents for an antique touch. An additional eye-catching detail was the couple’s program. The four-page booklet had a bold blue monogram and was personally designed by Emily and her bridesmaid. During the ceremony, the programs were placed in an heirloom--Emily’s grandmother’s train case--for an added vintage flair. With minimal decor at the ceremony, this accent stood out against the backyard setting. For future couples, Emily shares a tip. “I think the key to planning a wedding is not to stress over all the details. In the end, your day will be perfect because of all the family and friends that are around and not because the flowers are perfect.”
