A Vintage Backyard Wedding at a Private Residence in Glendale, Arizona

Sami Sorber (26 and in hospitality) and Sean Sorber (27 and in marketing) met at Northern Arizona University and started dating after Sami graduated. After dating for nearly three years, the couple went to Rocky Point, Mexico with their family and friends. Throughout the getaway, Sean planned many moments where he could pop the question, but faced a few hiccups when Sami always invited someone to join them. On one beach day, Sami wanted to cool off in the ocean, and Sean took advantage of the opportunity; clutching the ring, he ventured into the ocean and asked, “Will you be weird with me forever?” The couple chose to have their wedding in the backyard of the groom’s parents’ home, so they could have the freedom to customize every aspect of their day the way they wanted. Sami loves the way mint and gold look together, so they comprised the main color palette with accents of black and white stripes and polka dots. The ceremony took place on the grass in front of a trio of vintage doors and overhead lights and flowers. Cocktail hour was hosted on the patio with an open bar, and included a selection of the couple’s favorite beers in addition to a margarita machine. Guests were encouraged to provide the couple with advice to go into boxes marked for different occasions: first anniversary, first baby and seven-year itch. At the reception, the couple served buffet style Mexican food and gave each guest a jar of salsa from Sami’s family recipe. Guests enjoyed custom Mad Libs that were created to allow each guest to interact with the table and give the couple a funny story to read on their honeymoon in St. Thomas.
