A Vibrant, Multicultural Wedding at Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio

Amy Molnar (26 and a dental hygienist) and Samir Shah (34 and a periodontist) integrated American and Indian traditions into a multicultural celebration complete with vibrant colors, tropical florals and gilded details. Amy and Samir tied the knot in a greenhouse under a wood mandap covered with linens and blooms. At the interfaith ceremony, the couple traded flower garlands, walked around the sacred fire, took the seven steps, exchanged vows and rings, and lit a unity candle. “It was a representation of our future lives together—blending our cultures into one great, unique ‘us,’” Amy says. Bridal shower guests gifted Amy nearly 40 bangles that she wore on her wedding day. Postceremony, the bride and groom swapped their traditional ball gown and sherwani for more modern looks: a satin mermaid dress and low updo for Amy and a fitted navy suit for Samir. Floral arrangements, geometric terrariums and metallic accents added bohemian flair to the industrial reception space, while laser-cut place cards brought a personal touch to each tablescape. “Everyone raved about them,” Amy says. The menu featured full American and Indian buffets, and guests danced to a blend of traditional and contemporary music. Amy’s family is Slovenian, so midway through the father-daughter dance, she had the DJ cut to high-energy polka music. “It got the whole crowd smiling, laughing and ready to party!” she says.
