A Vibrant, Modern Indian Wedding at the Walker Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Rebecca Peterson (30 and a mental health professional) and Jagmeet (Sunny) Singh (31 and an IT consultant) were going for an India meets A Midsummer Night’s Dream theme for their bold, bright and modern nuptials.

The couple had a religious Sikh ceremony in the morning, and a ring reception later in the day at the Walker Art Center. During the reception, guests formed a circle around the couple, and were asked to write marriage advice on slips of paper, which were locked in a box to be opened on their one-year anniversary.

“I wanted something different and unexpected for the reception,” Rebecca says. “I loved going to Walker Art Center with my parents growing up. The view of the city is lovely.”

Elephants, a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Indian culture, were part of the centerpieces. “We wanted to incorporate both cultures to really fuse our families and friends,” Rebecca says.
