A Vibrant Hindu Wedding at the Westin in Pasadena, California

Shashank Roy, 27, and Niyati Gupta, 26, met during their undergrad years at UCI. "We became friends at first and eventually started dating," Niyati says. "We'd been dating for about six years when we got married. Shashank proposed around my birthday at a park in Irvine where we went on our first date!" As far as the wedding decor, both Shashank and Niyati wanted to have a traditional Hindu wedding, meaning vibrant, colorful decor with hints of gold. The couple settled on a color scheme of red, yellow and orange, which the bride says made the wedding feel "festive and fun!" The focal point of the ceremony was the bright yellow Mandap with red accents. Both Niyati and Shashank purchased their traditional attire in India for the most authentic experience. Niyati's hands, arms and feet were decorated in a mixture of Henna and Turmeric before the wedding ceremony. The groom participated in a traditional Baraat procession to the wedding ceremony, which was held at The Westin Pasadena. "The venue has beautiful mosaic walls and fountains outside that we absolutely loved!" says Niyati. After the ceremony, guests attended a cocktail hour, where traditional Indian food was served, then went indoors for the ballroom reception, lit up in purple, where a DJ played both Indian and American music. "We wanted to make sure our family and friends were having a blast -- not just attending any wedding, but our unique wedding!" says Niyati.
