The Bride: Heather The Groom: Adam Set in the grandeur of New York City’s Frick Collection museum, this masquerade-inspired reception (the couple wed at home at midnight the night before) brimmed with unconventional drama. This couple did away with all tradition to embrace their unique masquerade theme rather than trying to fit themselves into a mold. The result was a completely authentic and memorable event.

The decadently dressed table, a hallmark of a Rafanelli event, mixed pattern, shine, texture and light. Dark flowers gave way to bright pops of color as candlelight flickered off the many metallic accents. Your guests spend a large majority of time at the table, explains Rafanelli: “To keep them engaged, you want to add layers of interest, items to interact with and elements that seem to change over the course of the evening.”
To continue the drama without going over-the-top, Rafanelli let all the remaining details—from the royal palette of deep purples, rich reds and metallics to the stylish Gothic font on the table numbers—subtly allude to the night’s theme.

Every detail reflected thoughtful consideration of the venue. Gold laser-cut appliqués on the dark-chocolate cake mimicked architectural elements in the space, while tables formed a rectangle around the atrium.
By playing up a few obvious references, like the masks and the mysterious black-clad caped musicians who performed at dinner, Rafanelli immediately developed a very specific picture. Whether it’s far-out or more classic, think of a theme, he says, as a guide or road map to help you and your guests understand your true intention.
