Hilary and Christopher (Chris) had a traditional wedding at the 100-year-old chapel at the US Naval Academy, the groom’s alma mater. Chris’s classmates made a sword arch as the newlyweds kissed outside the US Naval Academy Chapel. Then they partied at a rustic farm, serving crab cakes, fall vegetables and pecan-encrusted salmon in a clear-top tent. “The ceremony and reception sites couldn’t be more different,” Hilary says. “But that’s kind of how we are. We were able to be formal, then let our hair down.” My only mandatory item was a black-and-white checkered dance floor,” Hilary says. “We built all the décor in the tent around it.” The couple placed flea market finds from around the country, like flour tins and used books, on tables and filled them with blue thistle, acacia, eucalyptus, astilbe and roses. An added touch: Hilary surprised Chris with a goat, the Naval Academy mascot.“ Instead of cake, Hilary and Chris served mint, blueberry, mud pie and salted caramel doughnuts.
