A Tropical Vintage Wedding at WithinSodo in Seattle, Washington

Becca Rice and Karim Ahmath’s passion for antiques was prominently displayed throughout their ceremony and reception. The pair sourced countless items from thrift shops, ranging from Karim’s 1970s brown suit jacket (which he bought for 50 cents!) to guests’ drinking goblets. “We spent a year tracking down over 100 metal folding chairs in a variety of styles and patterns, with the majority being gold, green and brown,” the couple says. “Our place cards were made from vintage postcards with beautiful soft tones and images, many with notes from original senders from the 1940s and beyond scrawled on the back.” Becca and Karim’s venue had an industrial aesthetic, since it was outfitted with exposed brick walls, warm-toned wood and a rooftop deck overlooking downtown Seattle. They offset the modernity with unexpected tropical details, like Becca's bright bouquet and the palm trees that covered the upholstery of the lounge furniture.
Our favorite #MakeTradition moment: “Having great food was important to us, and we served a menu that represented the types of foods you’d find at a traditional [Vietnamese] Cham wedding, representing Karim’s ethnic background,” the couple says. “Our friends and families dined on red beef curry, chicken skewers, white rice, noodles, papaya salad and egg rolls—something you’d find at a special Cham event.”
