A Tropical-Themed Wedding at Bali Hai Restaurant in San Diego, California

Hawaii was brought to California through this tropical wedding at Bali Hai Restaurant near the San Diego waterfront, with beautiful views of the downtown area. Andy Koy (37 and director of retail development) and Jay Koy (36 and in the US Navy) came across Bali Hai, a Polynesian restaurant, and knew the space would be perfect for their tropical theme, carried out through the vibrant palette and native Hawaiian flowers captured by Amy Millard Design + Photography. Everbloom Flowers created fresh leis for each woman who attended the wedding, which were placed over their heads as they entered the wedding. Andy and Jay kept the dress code casual, so loved ones were encouraged to wear comfortable clothes while they wore white button-up collared shirts paired with light tan pants. The outdoor ceremony took place on the patio, where Andy and Jay stood at the wooden archway with a beautiful backdrop of the coastal waters. Guests were greeted at the indoor reception by an "Aloha" sign, positioned in front of a tall tropical arrangement filled with vibrant blooms and lush leaves. Small pastries were served for dessert, which were marked with small flag toothpicks that read "Jandy" (Andy's and Jay's names combined). If the tropical theme wasn't obvious at that point, it definitely was when the Polynesian dancers came out and performed following the speeches. "We kept things light-hearted, fun and casual," Andy and Jay say. "Those attributes best describe us as a couple. We celebrate life and wanted all our friends and family to join us in that celebration."
