A Tropical, Bohemian Wedding at the The Hudson in Wichita, Kansas

Family came first for Hana  and Dylan  when wedding planning—which is why they chose to get married near their hometown of Newton instead of a beachside locale. That said, the couple still wanted a coastal touch on their day. “Dylan’s wardrobe is almost entirely flight suits and Hawaiian shirts, and when I was younger, I’d dreamed of an under-the-sea-themed wedding with mermaids and seashells,” Hana says. “We wanted to bring that ocean vibe to very landlocked Kansas.” In that spirit, tropical leaves topped the invites and the signage.

Hana and her squad, some in shades of seaside blue, carried Hawaiian-inspired tropical blooms, including monstera leaves and bright birds-of- paradise. “I’ve always been inspired by tropical plants and water,” Hana says. Brass candlesticks, gold geometric vessels and palm leaves accompanied the acrylic panels on the table numbers, mirroring the metallic, monstera-topped copper frame that stood behind Hana and Dylan’s head table.

Though Hana and Dylan originally planned on a tented outdoor reception, unexpected weather forced them to bring the party indoors. “We had to pull off our vision in an industrial warehouse,” Hana says. Potted plants and other lush greenery brought the pair’s plans to life. Partygoers followed a dinner of pulled pork, Hawaiian rolls and chicken and pineapple skewers with slices of seafoam-blue cake, as well as coconut cream and Key lime pies.
