A Travel-Themed Wedding at Hotel Playa Fiesta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
For a pair of world travelers getting married, there's no better way to tie the knot than to have a destination wedding. For Miranda Guilamo (27 and in sales) and Charles Guilamo (28 and an engineer), the idea of having an intimate, personalized celebration at Hotel Playa Fiesta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, sounded like a dream. “The choice in venue and location is one of the best decisions we’ve ever made,” the couple says. They incorporated their Latino roots into the celebration with men’s guayabera shirts, Latin dancing and more. Since the couple live abroad, travel was a major theme of their wedding: Each table was named after a different city the couple have visited, the guest book was a map of Mexico, and the cake topper and decor included Miranda and Charles with a map and suitcase. Two special items stood out at their wedding: a book and a video that the couple created to share with their guests. The book had a small bio of all 60 guests and where they were from, and the video had photos and clips from the couple’s eight years together and their past experiences with the guests. After the wedding-day festivities were over, all the guests stayed four nights at the resort with the newlyweds and participated in activities ranging from salsa dancing lessons to poolside poker tournaments and fire dancers and drummers on the last night. “It was an incredible week we will always remember,” the couple says.
