A Traditional Scottish Wedding at Hummingbird House in Manchaca, Texas
Sarah Firle (31 and a graphic designer) and Kyle Firle (29 and in business development) brought a taste of Scottish culture to their Texas wedding at Hummingbird House in Manchaca, Texas. “The groomsmen, in keeping with my Scottish heritage, were going to wear kilts,” Sarah says. Kyle wore the same kilt Sarah’s dad was married in 30 years before, bearing the family tartan, Prince Charles jacket, traditional black shoes and dagger tucked into his sock. The couple made sure the bar was stocked with Scotch, and served their favorite desserts instead of a classic wedding cake: Sarah chose a Scottish treat, millionaire’s shortbread. There was never a dull moment on the dance floor, where guests grooved to Scottish Highland dances led by one of the bride’s family members. The couple made sure to incorporate their shared love of nature throughout the day. “Having an outdoor wedding was a great reflection of us,” the bride says. “We’re both in touch with nature and really care for the environment, so it was important to us spiritually to be surrounded by that.” During their ceremony, the couple planted a bonsai tree and blessed it with water and soil from the dog park where they met. “It was very romantic and magical, which was exactly the kind of wedding we’d hoped for,” the bride says.
