The Bride Shazia Bashir, 30, a physician in the GYN Oncology fellowship at Cornell University and Columbia University The Groom John Jeffery “Jeff” Tong, 29, a geophysicist and a personal trainer at Equinox Fitness Club The Date April 23 Shazia and Jeff had a traditional Pakistani Muslim wedding that consisted of several events, culminating in the official Islamic ceremony, or nikkah. The elegant celebration featured peacock feather décor
and rich shades of peacock blue and plum.

Jeff wore a black sherwani, a traditional Desi suit. Intricate embroidery edged the collar and complemented
his red and gold turban.
Each layer of the four-
tiered buttercream cake was bordered with a gold scroll design and peacock feathers. The topper was fashioned
to resemble the couple.
Shazia accented her curly updo with a floral hairpin made of blue orchids
and red carnations.
Elaborate henna tattoos (called mehndi) adorned Shazia’s feet, hands and arms.
Cascading dendrobium orchids in a vibrant shade of blue were paired with green cymbidium orchids.
The couple’s gorgeous rings stood out against Shazia’s hand-painted peacock clutch.
