A Traditional, Elegant Wedding at Wee Burn Beach Club in Darien, Connecticut
Blair Shoemaker (29 and in museum development) and Ethan Shoemaker (29 and a banker) had their wedding at the Wee Burn Beach Club in Darien, Connecticut, where they used candlelight and sleek, clean decor to create an elegant ambiance. The wedding-day photographer, Daria Bishop Photographers, followed the entire wedding, capturing photos from the traditional church ceremony at the Noroton Presbyterian Church to the reception overlooking the scenic Long Island Sound. Blair credits the wedding's event planner, Sarah Taggart from A Polished Plan, for making the wedding planning run so smoothly. "With Sarah's help, we narrowed in on a simple, fresh and elegant color scheme for our decor," she says. They followed a color palette of white and green with accents of blue shown in the wedding party's fashions to tie in the beach scenery. Blair wore an Anna Maier custom-designed wedding dress with an A-line fit while Ethan wore a Michael Andrews custom navy suit with a blue tie. Blair's bridesmaids wore Amsale long dresses in various shades of blue matching Ethan's groomsmen in Brooks Brothers navy suits and blue ties. "I wanted the wedding to feel elegant and clean, simple but warm," Blair says. Reception tables were dressed in white tablecloths, while centerpieces created by the wedding-day florist, Flowers and Flowers, included white arrangements of roses and hydrangeas with a few clementines for a pop of color. "I also knew I wanted candlelight with a lot of candelabras and dripping candlesticks," she says. White taper candles lined the long, rectangular tables along with green garlands. "I wanted the reception room to look full and lush," Blair says. At the end of the day, Blair says, the wedding went by so quickly, she hardly remembers all the small details of the day. "I remember knowing that all my favorite people were in one place at a great party," she says, "and it was to celebrate me and Ethan, and that was just the coolest thing ever"
