A Traditional, Destination Wedding at Hotel El Convento in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

For Mary McCoy (33) and Danny Maki (37), their destination wedding was all about bringing out their Spanish and Mexican heritages with a “Latin fusion” vibe. “We were both born and raised in New Mexico, where our culture and traditions are celebrated with bright colors, joyful dancing and festive music,” Mary says. Everything—from the wooden ceremony fans to the fuchsia and orange flower arrangements and the mariachi band—drew on this concept. They made things that much more personal with the location: Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Mary and Danny fell in love with the island while on vacation and go back every year. Their planner, Intic, helped them make sure the reception at Hotel El Convento drew on San Juan’s colorful buildings with bright fuchsia, orange, red and yellow rose centerpieces as well as matching linens. Our favorite detail was the hand-painted Spanish-tile table numbers. Mary and Danny’s favorite moment, however, was a sweet surprise. “Our beautiful flower girls decided they wanted to give a toast just like our maid of honor and best man,” Mary says. “It was absolutely adorable.” Catch every moment of their day, shot by Fizelwink Photography, below.
