Janelle and Marcus met at Texas A&M University when Marcus came to College Station to visit friends. The two maintained a friendship but reconnected a few years later for a night out with friends in Houston. The next week, Marcus asked Janelle out to lunch, and the couple started dating quickly thereafter. Marcus proposed at the Long Center in Austin, Texas, and had family and friends waiting to surprise Janelle at her family’s lake house for a celebration after she said yes. Their wedding day especially reflected the couple’s closeness with family. Janelle’s father built a wooden cross for her and Marcus that the couple hung above them during their ceremony. Atop their three-tier, pink to white ombre cake, the couple used a classic white wedding topper that has been in Janelle’s family for three generations. Furthermore, the bride’s godmother brought in delicious Mexican wedding cookies from out of town to accompany the couple’s favorite cuisine—Mexican—at the reception. Janelle and Marcus also created a tradition of writing each other love letters and sealing them in a box with a bottle of wine to open on their five-year anniversary, to repeat the tradition every five years. Their wedding at Ma Maison Wedding and Event Venue in Dripping Springs, Texas, settled between Houston and San Antonio where their families reside, was a comfortable and chic celebration of love.

Janelle found her wedding dress at a consignment shop in Houston called Merry Go Round. The gown features spaghetti straps with a deep back and a long train.
