A Timeless Wedding at Alexander Homestead in Charlotte, North Carolina

Kathleen McMurchie (26 and a marketing coordinator) and Brandon Smits (28 and a mortgage underwriter) had a timeless wedding full of Southern elegance. The couple got married in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Alexander Homestead. “We knew the moment we drove into the lot and a sweet dog came running up to us that it was the perfect place,” Kathleen says. The bride wore her mother’s cathedral-length veil, which paired seamlessly with her ivory ball-gown wedding dress with a matching waist floral applique. Brandon’s only request was that he and his groomsmen didn’t dress in black, so they went with classy dark navy suits that matched the wedding invitations. ”It felt timeless and elegant without being black tie,” the bride says. Just like she envisioned, the color palette of her wedding consisted of neutrals with soft hints of green, from the flowers to the cake. “I never wanted to look back and wonder why I chose that crazy color or print,” she says. A highlight of the reception was a trio, MezzaVoice, that the couple invited to play at their wedding after hearing them perform at a small bar once before. “We ended up being absolutely obsessed with their low key but super fun vibe,” says the bride. “They were so easy to work with and definitely kept the party going.” Though their whole wedding was unforgettable from start to finish, Kathleen and Brandon shared special moments together even after their grand departure. “I think our favorite part of the whole night was hopping in our getaway car and talking about how perfect our entire day was,” the bride says. “We felt, and still feel, so lucky to have been surrounded by so many people we love.” See the details, captured by Photography by Angela Tucker, below.
