A Timeless Southern Wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina

Myers Jordan (23 and an account executive) introduced himself to Emily Arp (23 and a law student) during a campus outreach retreat. He mentioned that Emily knew his sister and then awkwardly walked off. "I later asked her to dance, but wasn't sure if she was interested enough for me to get her number so the next morning I filled her purse with marshmallows that were thrown around in a game—I figured it could be a good excuse to make conversation in the future!" says Myers. The marshmallows ended up melting everywhere but Emily was smitten and the pair dated until Myers proposed on Emily's birthday. After celebrating with friends and family, the couple spent the next eight months planning their timeless summer wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. Emily wanted their wedding to have a very formal, southern, elegant and classic feel with a palette of gold, cream, white and soft rose. "I was inspired not only by Kate Middleton's wedding—who isn't?!—but also by Steel Magnolia," says Emily. "I loved the elegance and formality of Kate's wedding but the warm, small-town feel of Shelby's." The bride's mother hand-painted gold candlestick holders to decorate the both the church and ballroom and lush arrangements of eucalyptus stems, lamb's ear, hydrangeas and roses lent a classic feel. To add a personal touch, the couple served breakfast foods instead of a traditional dinner as a nod to their IHOP dates throughout their relationship.
