A Sweet, Intimate Wedding at the Nest on Lake Weir in Ocklawaha, Florida

From the short wedding dress to the DIY arrangements and invitations, Kara Bigelow (28 and an art director) and Carlos Basabe’s (29 and an illustrator) neutral wedding was simple, sweet and filled with personal details. Eternal Sight Photography captured every moment of the day, which started with a waterfront ceremony at the Nest on Lake Weir. Carlos stood by a grand tree in a charcoal gray, Hugo Boss suit as their guests watched Kara’s entrance from rows of white folding chairs. Her wedding dress paired a lace bodice with three-quarter-length sleeves and an illusion neckline from Etsy and a tulle skirt designed by Alexandra Grecco. She completed the look with a gold-leaf-inspired headband and bright bouquet from Florida Flowers and Orchids. After the couple exchanged vows, their party began. Guests explored the grounds during their cocktail hour as Events By 7 lined each table with bulb vases of baby’s breath, low gold lanterns and a single vase of red calla lilies. After dinner, Kara and Carlos treated their guests to a simple confection that fit their natural setting. Jill’s Rum Cakes baked a two-tier Bundt wedding cake topped with sunflowers and purple asters. The couple and their guests finished the night with a few sips of champagne and dancing on the deck. Kara shares a tip: “I read something in a wedding advice column that really helped us: ‘Before you start planning anything, have a conversation about what's really most important to you on that day.’ ”
