A Summer Beachfront Wedding at The Dunes Club in Narragansett, Rhode Island
Having both grown up on the water, Laura Dunn (31 and a director of business development) and Louis Cona (27 and a manager of forensic services) were naturals at pulling off a cool coastal celebration in Narragansett, Rhode Island, using shades of hunter green, chartreuse and coral. “We wanted our wedding to feel like a summer vacation in New England that wasn’t overly formal or stiff,” Laura says. They outfitted their beachfront venue with hunter-green candlesticks, bamboo lamps and leafy arrangements of cosmos, dahlias, monstera and ferns. The result: a carefree fete that evoked the vibe of a wild, seaside garden. Laura enlisted the help of a local seamstress to transform her mother’s wedding dress into a V-neck gown and surprised Louis with neon lyrics from their first dance song, Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic.” “If a detail didn’t encourage our guests to go barefoot, have that extra glass of wine or let loose, we didn’t include it,” Laura says. Illustrator Happy Menocal designed a custom suite that incorporated lemons—a nod to the groom’s Italian heritage. Guests sipped Del’s Lemonade before the ceremony and took home canvas bags stocked with sentimental swag, like snacks the couple grew up with, koozies with their wedding crest and a personalized weekend guide. “We’ve noticed many of our friends and family are still carrying the bags, so mission accomplished,” she says.
