A Storm Almost Cancelled This Couple's Wedding on Martha's Vineyard
All of the details of Katie Donovan and Chris Waltham's wedding came together so seamlessly, you would never know their wedding almost didn't happen. During the week leading up to their Martha's Vineyard celebration, a storm blew across the island with winds up to 70 miles per hour, shutting down the island ferries for three days. This meant that 100 of their guests were stranded on Cape Cod until the morning of the wedding. Additionally, the couple had to move their reception venue to Katie’s parents’ backyard and change their catering menu since no food trucks could come to the Martha's Vineyard venue until the day of the wedding. “Stay positive and go with the flow,” encouraged Katie. “Even though we had nightmare conditions the week leading up to our wedding, we maintained a positive attitude and joked our way through it to keep us laughing. Our wedding may not have gone according to plan, but we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!” Once the Massachusetts wedding finally unfolded, it was filled with personalized nautical-meets-rustic details. From booklets that revealed the messages between the couple from when they first started talking through a dating app to an antique getaway car, Katie’s dad’s 1957 Chevy Bel Air, and an Australian-themed after-party to pay homage to Chris’ background.
